Sri Gopal Prasad Das belongs to a culturally rich family. He inherited the knowledge of rhythm from his father, Sri Somnath Das, a well-known vocalist. He was then trained under the guidance of legendary tabla maestro Pandit Shankar Ghosh in Kolkata. He has never stopped learning, playing and teaching ever since. Now a global percussionist and a tabla player of a new age, Gopal Prasad Das is equally brillant in traditional as well as in experimental genres. He has excelled in both national and international platforms, and has over 10 recordings as soloist and collaborator abroad. Gopal Prasad Das is nowadays an upgraded artist of All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (Bengal national TV channel). He was also empanelled as soloist and collaborator artist by Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) in Kolkata. In the field of Hindustani classical music, Gopal Prasad Das had the priviledge to accompany on many occasions top ranking Indian artists such as Pandit Deepak Chaudhury (sitar), Ustad Aashish Khan and Bidyut Khan (sarod), Ustad Raza Ali Khan, Parthasarathi Desikan, Purnima Chaudhury, Prabhati Mukherjee and Dr. Sunanda Patnayak (vocal), Guru Bandana Sen & Srimoti Rani Karna (Kathak dance), and many others... Creating waves home and abroad, Gopal Prasad Das has won accolades in international circuits while joining many international fusion and experimental music projects, collaborating with top Western musicians such as François Lindemann (piano) from Switzerland, Sangoma Everett (drums) from U.S.A. or Dusko Goykovich (trumpet) from Germany, and last but not the least with one of the currently most proeminent artist all over India, tabla wizard and composer Bikram Ghosh. Gopal Prasad Das also especially had the great opportunity in 2009 to work with world class musicians invited from different parts of the world (China, Indonesia, Thaïland, Vietnam, Maghreb, France, Switzerland;;;) for a world music project intitled Asian Caravan which performed both in India (Mumbai Blue Frog club) and Europe. Gopal Prasad Das is currently teacher and Principal of ''Goonj Music College'' and Chairman of ''International Music and Dance Institution'' in Kolkata, both institutions recognized by Pracheen Kala Kendra, University of Chandigarh, providing teaching and knowledge on Hindusatni classical music in Kolkata to national as well as international students.
